;D I can't believe nobody EVER made a topic juuuuust about Hexxus! So I'm going to do it. really really late in the game loool. ---- Alright, so talk about Hexxus here. What do you think of him? What do you personally think he was? Did he scare you, or did you find him a joke? Let er riiipppp! ---- First of alll, I think he was awesome. Even when I was a kid, he was my favorite character from the movie. Not too surprising if you knew me, given I gravitate toward the darker chars and villains at times. I thought he was an excellent foil for the Ferngully folk, given he sought to destroy everything they tried to protect. Although I didn't care for the blob and cloud forms as much as I did the two skeleton ones he had. My gosh, he was creepy and awesome as either skeleton. I'm going to assume that the larger one was more or less his 'true' form- at full power. But that either way, he was more a skeletal demonic creature than he was a cloud. Of course, it seemed a lot easier for him to move around as a cloud and blob, so I'm assuming those forms were born of their convenience. And he doesn't really care what he looks like anyway lolol. As for what he is, I'm kind of in the middle ground. I have, humorously enough, seen people get all snippy with each other that Hexxus is pollution and that's it. Personally, I don't think that's entirely true. I think Hexxus is pollution in a way- and that's what the author of the original book intended him to be a device for. I have actually never read the book, so I'm going on the movie here- but I generally consider him the embodiment of destruction. (He seems to be inclined toward natural destruction as well- given the beginning of the movie has him coming from a volcano; one of the most dangerous, destructive forces in nature. That isn't a storm anyway lol.) Of course, volcanoes are also great sources of noxious fumes and gasses, so one could argue against me and say that he is only pollution and that volcanoes were the only real place to get the fumes he needed before humans became so industrialized. But then Magi makes the comment that Hexxus is 'the very spirit of destruction', so...It's an argument that can go around and around. The book should be able to comment on that matter for sure, but again- I've never read the book. So, if you have and you read this- tell me, what does the book call Hexxus? Does the author call him pollution, or destruction? (Pollution is one of many forms of destruction, so if the book too calls him the spirit of destruction, then yeah. ) lolol Hexxus never scared me though. I always liked him and his song. But he is the sort of guy who, if I saw that demonic skeleton in real life- I'd be running as fast as my legs could carry me in the other direction.

I think you brought up a lot of interesting points here Shauni and personally i think you are right that yes he is a form of pollution but always seemed from the movie perspective a deeper insight to that, more like the form of destruction which could include pollution in it. In the book his powers are a bit more destructive not only using the leveler created by man but his own poison to kill animals and trees as the leveler cut them all down. Character wise I never found him to be scary as a little kid. I was never really too found of his blob like form where we first meet him but the smoke wasn't too bad and I often wonder with the skeleton form what would've happened if he hadn't been trapped as it seemed like something big was about to happen with that form but because the movie was becoming too long it was stopped to a halt. I also never really liked or hated him. No offense to him but when I was little I was always favoring the hero, the good guy. But now that I am older and don't favor that as much I think he is a really good villain though he did not get to live up to his full potential.

Mhmm, that's what I've always thought, from the movie and such. =o oh that's wicked cool. Heh, guess they couldn't put that all in the movie, or poor kids would be traumatized for life. I'm with you there, he never scared me as a kid either. Yeah! I think that's a shame we didn't get to see what his giant skeleton form was capable of. I assume he never gets much further in the book, either. Does he turn into that skeleton at the end in the book as well? lolol well hey there's nothing wrong with that. Heroes are meant to be loved too, I say. and Zak, pips, batty, and Crysta were equally as awesome. This is true. But I guess that's just the type of film it is.

No unfortunately he didn't get to do much with the skeleton form in the book either. And though it's a shame he didn't get to use his poison ability I still like how he turned out in the film for the most part as I think Tim Curry really brought him to life.

D; aw that's a shame. Oh well, it's one of those movies with the heroes winning really well- so that's fine. ^^ Mhmm! I looove Tim curry, and how he made Hexxus so charismatic.

WHAT? You're kidding. NO ONE ever made a topic just on Hexxus? Preposterous, I tell you! It's so funny because when I was a really little girl I loved this movie, but everytime Hexxus came on screen I would literally run and hide behind my couch until his part was over. And ironically, it wasn't the final fight scene that frightened me most. It was always the part when Hexxus transformed from a cackling pile of sludge and started sucking on the exhaust pipes to make himself grow bigger. I think the fact that he got so big so quickly scared me as a kid, so I was like; "fast-forward this part!" Haha.
It's ironic because now, as an adult I don't think there can be a bigger Hexxus FAN. I love him and everything about him; his looks, voice, and that delightfully dark personality. I can't get into much detail here, seeing as this is a family-friendly forum, lol. But let's just say I like Hexxus a LOT. I'm so sad the directors cut out a big part of his song. There were so many extra lyrics that make fangirls swoon, lol. I'm sure you fans know what I'm talking about.

;D heck yes! lolol i would have put some of THOSE into my siggy, but like you brought up- family friendly forum. I really do wish they'd made his entire song into part of the animation. I mean between sucking on certain-shaped pipes after making that comment about mother's milk, the uh...'HAPPY' noises he was making during the song, and the sado-masochistic feel they gave him...would that particular word really have made that song any more sensual? xD
...oh right, not to mention tim curry's voice ahaha.
I think I must have been a really weird kid. I hear a lot of people say that they love him now, but when they were little he scared them. According to my parents I would rewind his song several times and adored it, and that AND the giant demonic skeleton were my favorite parts of the movie. As a little girl. XD; ...Makes me wonder what type of creepy little kid I was. But I love him even more now, so I totally get what you're saying. ;D
One thing I wish about the full song was that it had the same pitch and beat of the one in the movie. I've listened to both songs back and forth, and I prefer the arrangement of lyrics and the extra lyrics in the full version- but the way the movie version sounds, musically-wise...is a lot better than the full one in my opinion.

Haha, I totally agree with you! I'd probably put some of those lyrics in mine as well. Especially that one after he says; "I feel good." Lololol! Darn that family-friendly forum! But I still love your siggy. That part in his song is just drool-worthy. Then again, so is the ENTIRE song!
I know, right? I don't think the song could get much more sensual, either. No one sings or MOVES like Hexxus. <33333
Weird kids are totally the best, right? I was a bit of an oddball as well. -Toasts to the creepy kid club-
I was thinking the exact same thing. Like, the lyrics in the extended song are amazing, but I really enjoy the upbeat tempo of the cut-version shown in the film. If they combined the two, that would be pure win-win!

Hahha i know right? And the musical beat sounds like something you'd hear in a...club of some sort. >.> lolol boy Hexxus sure felt good and excited, no? EXCEPT TIM CURRY, BUT...lolol j/k. I had to be lame there. But you're right! I just wish his last epic form would have gotten more screen time. It seemed like a bad joke and slap in the face to Hexxus fans that he becomes this super awesome fiery skeleton- and then OH SNAP, HE ATE A SEED AND A TREE GREW OUT OF AND AROUND HIM LULZ. I'll drink to that! -also toasts the creepy kids club- Hehe, well then- we made our parent's lives more interesting, did we not? Exactly! xD I'm screwing around with the full version of the song on my laptop, trying to keep the audio as it is- without raising or lowering pitch- while speeding up the music in the background. >.> I wonder if I can get close at all.

Haha yes he sure did. I can't help but grin every time he makes those, those sounds! I dare anyone to not fall in love with him, lol. Bet they can't do it.
Hehe, Tim Curry is pretty awesome and all, but no one beats Hexxus. I'll take him to Mr. Curry any day of the week. I know, right? Poor Hexxus was getting all geared up for an epic battle when -poof- back into another darn tree again. That wouldn't have happened if he didn't swallow Crysta, would it? And I think most people consider his skeleton form his most powerful, but I don't. Here's why; when he is a little pile of sludge, that seems to be his weakest form. After he sucks in all those yummy toxic fumes, he then grows to his full potential/most powerful as a destructive smog monster that could wipe away the world as if a supermassive tornado.
Now, near the end when Zak shuts off the power to the leveler, Hexxus freaks out and shrinks away because his energy source was gone. Then he comes back, still weaker than before, as a skeleton. I also remember him being a skeleton when he transitions from tiny sludge to giant smog demon. So I think that's his in-between form, which is not the most OR least powerful. But that's just how I saw it.
Haha, I'm sure we did. Creepy kids have a way of being entertaining, whether they mean to or not I suppose.
Oh that's cool. I wish I knew how to tamper with music like that! Maybe if you tweak it to your liking, you could post it in the videos section so we can all hear your awesome work? ;D

xD You and me both!
You know, that's a very good point . I think you're absolutely right about it being a less powerful, in-between form. But I still prefer it aesthetically anyway. I'm the kind of creepy dark person who likes the skeletons like that! But imagining him as a super powerful smog monster like that ...brrr, that'd be just as cool!
llolol maybe. all i can do is speed up the song, and tamper with the time stretch which changes pitch. xD sadly the backtracks for the songs are different in a lot of places, so I can't make it sound very close. I CAN MAKE IT FASTER THO lol. and change the pitchish while it still is tim curry's epic voice

Hey, there's nothing wrong with liking skeletons. They're cool. I adore all his forms but I just prefer the smog-a-licious version most! xD
I'd be interested to see how the song sounds faster, anyway. It might be really nice.

I can make that happen! What I did was cut the song apart, so that I could structure it the way it is in the movie ( with the hit me part at first...And removing the acid rain part from where it belongs, to put it at the end just like in the movie). Of course since I'm working with flipping wmm, the sound quality jumps and sounds bad in those moments, but..xD I also noticed now since I listened to them both, that the version in the movie ..it sounds like they changed Curry's pitch a bit deeper. Even with changing the pitch of the extended version, his voice is still higher than in the movie. I tried slowing the pitch of the extended song down by 1-2 percent, but it didn't sound quite the same. xD I'm at a loss! I think they just used some epic editing software I don't have. lolol sooo when I get on my laptop later tonight, I'm just gonna post the mangled, pitch-altered and 5% sped up version I made. D8< curse you movie studio, for making it impossible to copy that sound!

That sounds cool. I actually like it a lot when the song had the "hit me" part first, hehe. It kind of built up for the rest of it. xD
Oh, you noticed that too huh? I thought I was the only one. It did sound like Curry softened his voice for the full version, which is nice and sweet, but I really like the deep, emphasizing voice he had in the movie. Hey but I'm sure even though it sounds a tiny bit different, it will still be good fun to listen to.
